“Supernova” is a series of paintings that appear very simple at first glance. After staring into them for a while subtle nuances come forth. The focal point of a circle draws the eye toward the center of the canvas, while the vivid color and detail push out. The circle; the main subject matter the paintings; is a universal shape that appeals to a large group of viewers. Each painting incorporates an explosion that creates some whimsical chaos to an otherwise tightly wound painting. The paintings of “Supernova” work well together as a group and can stand alone as an individual. Inspirations for the series were drawn from pop music which give them a rhythmic flow.
