With “Sixty,” and much of my other work, I try to break down paintings to the simplest form.  I use squares and circles as my subject matter because I believe they are shapes that viewers easily recognize.  In many ways, I consider my paintings more like sculptures.  I often create a visual problem in the painting and try to fix it by balancing it out with another shape or color, much like a mobile.  I am inspired by the “pop music” I listen to.  I prefer songs that are catchy at first but with many layers of subtle depth.  I try to recreate paintings in a similar fashion.

“Sixty” is a show that was put together in just over two months.  It required a sacrifice of my time, sleep and social life with only a few interruptions such as a fourteen-day trip to France and returning with a horrible cold.  This project was quite a learning experience in many ways.  It demanded a lot of quick, creative energy for the design of the frames, the website and of course the paintings themselves.  I have to give special thanks to my friend Joe La Sala for the production of the frames, Patrick Torre for technical computer support and David Fitzgerald for additional production advice.

Please enjoy the show and contact me with any comments or feedback.
